Kids Get Active Days

Events Youth Group Other News Sports and activities

Collaborating with Peke Waihanga Artificial Limb Service between 2018 and 2021, dsport brought the Kids Get Active days to Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch and gave more young amputees the opportunity to experience sport and active recreation.

Because the number of young people with limb deficiencies is relatively small, the opportunities for them to meet other young people is often limited. Through these days, not only allowed the young people meet others similar to them and experience a fun active day, but also their parents had the opportunity to network with other parents.

Since its inception in 2018, it has been pleasing to see the uptake of sport and active recreation by these young people since we started the. In this time, not only have these young people been able to access improved services and for some, new prosthetic technology such as the Ossur Activity Blade. Many have joined their respective Parafed’s in their region and are actively involved, including at least 15 have attended the Halberg Games.

Our partnership with Peke Waihanga has been one which we are truly proud of and representative of how collaboration within the sector creates amazing outcomes.
