The first archery competition for those with physical impairments was held for recovering veterans at the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in England 1948.
Archery is open to athletes with a physical impairment. Para athletes can compete seated in a wheelchair, or from a standing position.
Para archers in NZ are able to compete alongside able-bodied athletes.

Plimmerton Domain, Mana
Mana Archery Club are an indoor, field, and target club located at the Plimmerton Domain adjacent to Plimmerton Railway Station. Targets range from 5m to 90m away and even full size 3D animals and dinosaurs.

Randwick
Randwick Road, in Moera, Lower Hutt
This busy archery club caters for archers of all abilities, from absolute beginners to experienced archers shooting distances from five to ninety metres. Their competitive season runs from October to September. The range has several fixed target stands, and the club is well equipped with mobile stands that can be set at any distance up to 90 metres.

Trentham Camp Archery Club

Beginner's courses are held on Sundays. A beginner's course consists of eight 1.5 hour lessons. During the course we will teach basic safety, etiquette, care of equipment, exercise and get you shooting in a confident manner.

Kapiti Coast Archery Club
128 Mahaki Road, Nikau Valley
Kapiti Coast Archery Club allows archers to practice Field Archery. Unlike target archery (Paralympic style), field archery is conducted surrounded by nature and very often on uneven ground. You will find yourself aiming your bow uphill, downhill, between trees and bushes, over streams and on special occasions even at moving targets!
